Having good risk management practices can help reduce the likelihood of you needing to file a claim with your insurance carrier and help provide a positive client experience. For early education providers, risk management practices need to support business continuity and safety. This can include having strategies in place designed to protect your property, enhance your transportation practices, and provide a safe environment for your clientele. This workshop will provide an insurance professional’s overview of what some of these risk management strategies should be to help maintain a well-rounded risk management program at your center.
Michael is Sr. Loss Control Specialist for Markel Insurance Company. Michael is responsible for creating and implementing risk management programs in support of child care, social service, youth camp and recreation programs, non-profit organizations, youth clubs, martial arts, dance and gymnastics programs for Markel. With 30 years industry experience, he has an extensive background in risk management. Michael, a 1984 graduate of Va. Tech, holds certifications as an Associate in Risk Management, a Senior Claim Law Associate, a Certified Playground Safety Inspector, and a Child Passenger Safety Technician. He also maintains certifications through the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators Safety Certification Program, USA Gymnastics Risk Management Safety Certification Program, Wilderness First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard Management and has certified as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Mr. McGuckin is a graduate of Duquense Law School and is the owner of Ronald V. McGuckin and Associates Law Firm, which represents child care agencies in Pennsylvania, and has consulting agreements with child care agencies across the country, including several large Head Start programs. Because of his extensive expertise in the area of law affecting the child care industry, Mr. McGuckin has gained a national reputation as "The Child Care Lawyer". Having done so for over forty years, he continues to train child care professionals on a variety of issues including personnel, administration, and other management and legal issues. In addition, he is the author of three publications designed for child care administrators, "Current Issues in Child Care,” “ Model Personnel Policies for Child Care Agencies 1 st through 6 th Editions," and “Model Parent Handbook for Child Care Agencies,” all which have proven to be valuable assets to the child care industry nationwide. Since 2007, Mr. McGuckin has served on the Board of Directors of the National Accreditation Council (NAC) of the Association for Early Learning Leaders (AELL). Most recently, Ron served a four year term as Board President of the Association of Early Learning Leader’s Board of Directors.
