Mary Hornbeck began her career in early care and education when, at the age of 21, she became the owner of Special Beginnings Early Learning Center in Lenexa, Kansas. Since that time, she has expanded her business multiple times and now operates four programs that serve over 350 families. As CEO, Mary leads an 11-member management team and 80 staff members. In addition to the early education programs, Mary is a partner in G4S Beach Retreats in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where she hosts beach retreats for leaders and their teams; especially those in the early care and education field.
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Life from the University of Kansas. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Early Learning Leader and chairs the President’s Legacy Commission for the AELL as well. Mary has written and implemented staff and parent policy handbooks, as well as developmental assessments for young children. She is a national trainer, is an advocate for quality care & education of young children, as well as women business owners. She is a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Women Who Mean Business in Kansas City, Missouri.
